Beer sales rise with the heat this summer

Ontario residents are cracking open more cool ones this summer, a trend some are attributing to the hot, sunny weather.

Ontario residents are cracking open more cool ones this summer, a trend some are attributing to the hot, sunny weather.

The LCBO says sales of beer and cider from June 30 to July 17 show an increase of 11.5 per cent over the same period last summer.

Chris Layton, a spokesman for the LCBO, says that translates into about one million more six-packs of beer.

Meanwhile, the Beer Store has seen a three per cent increase over last year’s sales in June and July.
