Authorities are investigating after a woman's decomposing body was found in the garden of an Airbnb rental in suburban Paris.
The unidentified woman, in her 40s, was found wearing clothes but no shoes or winter coat, according to Bertrand Daillie, the deputy prosecutor for Évry which is located south of Paris. He said the corpse was covered by tree branches that were purposely placed, NBC News reported.
A birthday party led the group of people in their 20s to rent out the home for the weekend. They canceled the plans after discovering the body and were questioned by police, according to the New York Daily News.
The autopsy was performed on Feb. 29 but Daillie said it did not determine a cause of death, NBC News reported. It did, however, put the time of death at about one month or more. Daillie said further forensic examinations will happen later this week. The badly decomposed body could have been left on the property because it is not fenced in, according to the Daily News.
According to Daillie, the homeowners were away on vacation. They are expected to come back on Wednesday and will be questioned by police then. The homeowner was informed by the renters and talked to police.
The house in the town of Palaiseau, about 10 miles south of Paris, was rented through the website Airbnb but the listing has been removed since the discovery, NBC News reported.
