The men suspected as the Boston Marathon bombers wanted to drive to New York to “party,” Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said.
Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, who is in custody at a hospital, reportedly told investigators that they wanted to relax after the bombings last week.
“The information that we received said something about partying or having a party,” Kelly told reporters.
Tsarnaev had visited New York in November, Kelly said.
He added that the NYPD has no information that the brothers had plotted a terror attack in the city.
News outlets had previously reported that the two brothers had told a man whose car they hijacked that they were planning on going to New York.
