It’s been nearly a month since the Boston Marathon bombings and millions of people in Greater Boston have or are trying to getting their lives back to normal.
But for the hundreds of victims of the attack, the recovery is still very much underway.
One of the youngest victims of the Boston Marathon bombings just underwent her 11th surgery.
Jane Richard is the younger sister of Martin Richard, the 8-year-old who was one of three people killed during the April 15 blasts.
The family of the 7-year-old girl posted an update on the family’s recovery in a blog post put online Thursday.
“One of the things we have learned through all of this is to not get too high or too low,” the family wrote. “We take today’s development as positive news and look ahead with guarded optimism. If things go well, Jane could be ready to transition to the rehabilitation stage of her recovery in the next few weeks.”
Jane Richard’s surgery Wednesday night was a “milestone,” the family said, as doctors were able to finally close the wound created when the second bomb took her left leg below the knee. More surgeries and a long recovery are in her future, her family said.
Jane’s parents, Denise and Bill, were also injured in the blast. Bill suffered shrapnel injuries and burns and Denise suffered a serious eye injury.
The Dorchester family also posted a message of thanks to the community and first responders.
“The outpouring of support from friends, family and total strangers has been incredible, and it is uplifting to our family in this most painful and difficult time,” the family wrote.
