The Canadian Federation of Independent Business said a roundtable discussion they hosted yesterday morning sent a clear message they don’t want to see tax increases implemented by the province to help reduce the budget deficit.

A CFIB news release said over 70 small-and-medium-sized business owners from across the province came out for the pre-budget consultation event in Halifax, which also included representation from the provincial government that wasn’t an MLA.

Judith Andrew, CFIB’s acting vice-president of Atlantic Canada, said in a release they also have over 2,100 signatures on petitions “opposing increased taxes as a so-called solution to the financial mess.”

The federation is calling for the province to aggressively control its expenses instead of tax increases.
