Catch cabin fever at cottage expo

Cabin season is upon us, so the timing couldn’t be better for the Edmonton Log and Cottage Show on this weekend at the Edmonton Expo Centre.

Alberta is quite possibly the number 1 market in western Canada for log homes and cottages, according to the show’s producer Rick Young.

This is the show’s fifth year in Edmonton and Young said he couldn’t be happier to bring it back once again.

“Alberta is absolutely a good market for this show because of the high disposable income here,” he said.

“Alberta leads the west. Saskatchewan is very strong as well but Alberta has weathered these (economic) ups and downs reasonably well.”

The Log and Cottage Show is an up-front and close encounter with unique builders and their buildings. Over 100 exhibitors and 35 builders from all over Canada will be on hand to answer questions and host seminars. And Young said they’re eager to get to work.

“The builders have had a tough year and a half I would say, so they’re anxious to get back to buoyant and enthusiastic markets and that’s what Alberta is,” he said.

“It’s a very good time for people to invest in this because they (builders) are hungry.”
