The world’s most populous country continues to innovate within the clean and renewable energy market with a panda solar farm.
China has developed a huge solar farm in a form of two pandas.
The first panda power solar farm was connected to the grid in the hills of Datong, Shanxi province in late June to promote public consciousness about environment-friendly technologies and sustainable development.
“The new Panda Solar Farm is a clear demonstration of how innovative approaches can bring benefits to the new energy sector,” said Nicholas Rosellini, United Nations resident coordinator and UNDP resident representative in China.
Panda Solar Farm facts
The power plant covers a total area of 248 acres.
The total power capacity of the Panda Power Plant is 100 megawatts.
The plant will be able to supply 3.2 billion kilowatts of clean energy in 25 years, replacing more than 1 million tons of coal and reducing 2.74 million tons of CO2 emissions.
The white part of the panda design is made from thin film solar cells, while the black part consists of monocrystalline silicon solar cells.
