Located outside the movie theatres at Chinook Centre, stylish Chop is the grown-up steakhouse sibling of Moxie’s, which belongs to the same company.
Chop’s other focus is seafood, serving sustainable fish promoted by the Ocean Wise program.
The steak sandwich ($15) features a seasoned, six-ounce sirloin on homemade garlic toast that turns out to be a tad too thin under the juices and weight of the steak. Shards of parmesan are awkward; I would have preferred it shaved or another kind of cheese altogether.
The Chop Burger ($13) fares better as a moist patty with aged white cheddar, double-smoked bacon and chipotle aioli. The fries are OK, but nothing to write home about.
Tables are easy to get and service is efficient. It’s a contemporary chain experience — pleasant but unmemorable.
While lunch here is convenient if you’re in the area, Chop’s attractive lounge is ideal for pre- or post-movie drinks.
