His supporters and detractors alike can probably agree on one thing: The actions of President Donald Trump and his administration are arguably the strangest the county has ever seen.

One Rhode Island congressman has taken that one step further and compared the month-old administration’s movements to the parallel dimension that exists in Netflix’s supernatural hit, “Stranger Things.”

“Like the main characters in ‘Stranger Things,’ we are now stuck in the Upside Down. Right is wrong, up is down, black is white,” Democrat Rep. David Cicilline said Thursday as he stood on the House floor next to a sign with “Trump Things” written in the font of the show’s logo.

“The White House deceives the American public for weeks about their contacts with Russia, but an Attorney General who followed her conscience is fired,” Cicilline said. “Executive orders are signed in order to ‘keep us safe’ while national security conversations are held out in the open.”

Cicilline also cited Trump praising “a thug like (Russian President Vladimir) Putin” and spending billions on a border wall “while Flint, Michigan, still goes without clean drinking water.”

The congressman concluded his speech by saying that, like the young characters on “Stranger Things,” “This is not a TV show. This is real life. We have a president unlike any we have ever known. … We must remain focused on the task at hand and hold this administration accountable so we can escape from our own version of the Upside Down.”
