Former Toronto police officer Richard Hanna’s international police career has come to a screeching halt in the Cayman Islands where he has been jailed for 15 months for stealing money from schoolchildren.

Hanna, a former Toronto traffic cop, was the man who sparked the city hall corruption scandal that led to the firing of Toronto licensing chief Pam Coburn.

Hanna, 30, was convicted last month of 14 counts of theft of money raised by children and their parents. During the trial, he testified he kept the money from a walkathon because he wanted to buy books for the school but officials decided to purchase playground equipment instead.
