Citing a B.C. government edict, Vancouver city council is keeping the salaries of Vancouver police officers under wraps — and one councillor doesn’t understand why.
A complete list of city hall employee earnings was released in May, but excluded VPD salaries.
NPA Coun. Suzanne Anton said salary disclosure hasn’t been problematic historically and sees no reason to think otherwise.
“I haven’t heard a persuasive argument about why VPD salaries should be confidential,” she said.
Anton said it wasn’t city council’s decision not to disclose salaries.
“The provincial government issued the opinion that they be kept confidential,” she said.
