Dartmouth paddler wins three medals in Germany

Dartmouth’s Jason McCoombs found the podium three times at the RuhrInternational sprint canoe-kayak regatta in Bochum, Germany, on theweekend.

Dartmouth’s Jason McCoombs found the podium three times at the Ruhr International sprint canoe-kayak regatta in Bochum, Germany, on the weekend.

McCoombs, who competed in the junior men’s category, claimed silver in the C-1 500 metres and bronze in the C-1 200 and C-1 1,000.

Halifax’s Alexa Irvin was not far behind, finishing the weekend as a double-medallist. Irvin, competing in the under-23 women’s category, took bronze in the K-1 1,000 and silver in the K-4 500.

Fall River’s Michelle Russell, competing in the junior women’s category, teamed up with Quebec’s Andreane Langlois to win silver in the K-2 200.

McCoombs, Irvin, Russell and Dartmouth kayaker Adam Tenwolde have spent the past three weeks training in Europe, stopping in Lithuania, Hungary and Germany.
