Degrassi stars bring DJ set to town

While Toronto rapper Drake cleaned up at the Junos this past weekend, other members of the Degrassi TV franchise are making their marks in the nation’s music circles.

As members of the classic Degrassi cast, audiences all over the world watched Stacie Mistysyn and Amanda Stepto grow up on TV.Mistysyn’s award-winning run as Caitlin Ryan earned her three Gemini nominations, including a win for best performance by a lead actress in a continuing dramatic role. Stepto played Christine (Spike) Nelson, earning nominations for both a Gemini and a Young Artist Award, not to mention legions of loyal fans.

But their latest incarnations as DJ Demanda and DJ Mistylicious have allowed the two to meet another new set of fans: Clubgoers, namely those at the Pawn Shop on Whyte Avenue this Saturday.

“Everyone just comes to have fun and let loose, which is exactly why we enjoy doing it,” Mistysyn said.“They dress up, have dance-offs and party hard.”

Mistysyn said this is the pair’s third appearance in Edmonton, but both are keeping busy with television as well.

“Amanda and I have been developing a TV dramedy series,” she said. “We have an excellent writer and producers working with us, so hopefully it will be a reality soon.”
