Dog rescued from mill gives birth to three pups

One of the dogs rescued recently from a local commercial puppy mill has given birth to three healthy puppies over Easter Sunday.

One-year-old Cinnamon gave birth to three puppies, two females and one male, all of which are being taken care of at the Edmonton Humane Society Shelter.

While it’s not unheard of for a dog as young as Cinnamon to have puppies, the Edmonton Human Society considers it to be a very young age for a dog to give birth.

“It is pretty young, it’s considered,” said Shawna Randolph, spokesperson for the society. “She’ll be staying in foster care with the puppies for the next couple months.”

After a few months, if they’re still healthy and strong, the unnamed puppies will be tested for adoption and be available for the public.

Randolph said Cinnamon wasn’t the only rescued dog that was pregnant when brought into the shelter clinic from the mill, but unfortunately the litter from the other dog did not survive.
