Domestic disturbance turns deadly

Margaret Blair-Grant knew something was wrong yesterday as soon as she saw her teenage neighbour outside, without shoes or a jacket, talking grimly on his cellphone.

“He just told me, ‘My dad tried to stab my mom,’” said Blair-Grant, noting the teen — whom she identified as Geoffrey — didn’t seem injured. She believes he was calling police.

Police swarmed the low-rise apartment building on Eppleworth Road, near Kennedy Road and Eglinton Avenue, and led the teen away from the scene, Blair-Grant said.

A woman was killed and her 38-year-old husband was taken to hospital with a gunshot wound Thursday morning after an altercation that also involved police. An officer was taken to Sunnybrook hospital suffering from stab wounds.

Police went to a first-floor apartment after receiving a 9-1-1 call just after 10 a.m., said Staff Supt. Jeff McGuire.

Officers found a woman suffering from stab wounds and a man with a knife, police sources said. The man allegedly attacked an officer.

McGuire confirmed police are investigating a homicide, but said no charges have been laid and would not disclose the victim’s identity.
