Drill, baby, drill — for the family

LONDON. A rare 1970s-era BP-themed board game has gained some newfound popularity following its rediscovery in a UK toy museum.

BP Offshore Oil Strike — the “exciting board game for all the family” which boasts all the “thrills,” “hazards” and “rewards” of the petroleum drilling scene — invites up to four players to compete for the ultimate in oil rewards: big money. By exploring for oil and growing one’s pipeline infrastructure, players race to be the first to earn $120 million and win the game.

But not all is fun and games in the BP board game. Hazard cards — such as “Blow-out! Rig damaged. Oil-slick clean up costs. Pay $1 million.” — can set back a player’s black gold ambitions.

In a statement Monday, BP said it has so far spent $3.12 billion in the aftermath of the Deepwater Horizon spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
