Ottawa Police have increased their patrols in the Fallingbrook area after a cyclist groped four female joggers over the last several weeks.
All four incidents occurred between June 21 and July 6, between the hours of 7:30 p.m. and 9 p.m., and in every case the cyclist rode up behind the victims and touched their buttocks as he passed them.
“I think it’s definitely concerning when an ongoing problem has no sign of abating,” said Ottawa Police Detective David Christie. “There’s always a concern it may escalate further.”
The victims were adults in their 30s and 40s. No one was injured and police believe the incidents are random.
“The police on patrol in the area are all aware of the description and they’re all looking for him,” said Christie.
It was still light out when the incidents took place. Still, he said people should be vigilant when they’re out alone.
“At 8 o’clock, it’s still light out and people are still going about their normal business. It’s not like people are walking through a dark forest. They’re just doing normal stuff,” Christie said. “(But) always be aware of your surroundings. And if anything happens, call the police.”
The suspect is described as a 14- to 17-year-old English-speaking male, 5-foot-6 to 5-foot-10 with a thin build. He has curly black hair and was riding a mountain bike.
In two cases, the suspect was wearing a blue French soccer team jersey bearing the number 10 and the name Zidane. Anyone with information can call at 613-236-1222, ext 5463.
