Confessions of a Shopaholic
Director: P.J. Hogan

Even if the economy hadn’t melted down shortly after filming wrapped up, this sad excuse for comedy would still have seemed like an exercise in, “What were they thinking?” The unfunny Isla Fisher plays the charge-happy Rebecca in P.J. Hogan’s dull adaptation of the Sophie Kinsella bestseller. Rebecca’s three biggest problems are idiocy, greed and poverty, yet they prove no impediment to her landing a job at a money magazine advising people on how best to save. Hugh Dancy is the mag editor who thinks Rebecca shows promise in both the love and loot departments. John Goodman, Joan Cusack and Kristin Scott Thomas are equally blind. Hogan used to make funny movies like Muriel’s Wedding and My Best Friend’s Wedding, but that was so last century.
