Edmonton families celebrate mothers

Generations of mothers and daughters celebrated a warm, sunny Mother’s Day around the city yesterday.

At the annual Sport Chek Mother’s Day Walk and Run in End of Steel Park, three generations of women ran together to support the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation. The family has participated in the event since about 2002, according to Roberta Martindale, the youngest of the group.

Martindale ran with grandma Vicki Thomlison and mom Valerie Lapierre. According to LaPierre, the highlight of the day was being “away from all the men.”

A different mother-daughter trio chose to brunch on Whyte Avenue.

“I came down from Grande Prairie for the weekend,” said Karen Bilodeau, who came to visit her daughter and granddaughter. “I’m staying here, shopping, going to the zoo.”

Bilodeau’s two-year-old granddaughter Lilanwass delighted with the day’s plans for the zoo visit.
“This is the gift, just spending time together,” said Bilodeau.
