Elderly pair out of home after bungalow fire

Two elderly residents have been displaced after a fire caused extensive damage to their bungalow at 924 Fisher Ave. Thursday morning.

Emergency workers were called to a fire at 5:40 a.m., where two residents managed to escape before firefighters’ arrival. A woman was taken to hospital for minor smoke inhalation injuries.

Forty-three firefighters in 15 vehicles got the fire under control within half an hour, but not before it killed a pet cat and caused over $275,000 in damages.

The Ottawa fire department said the fire started in one of the bedrooms. The cause is under investigation.
