Exhibits take road trip

The B.C. Sports Hall of Fame will be taking some of its exhibits on the road during the B.C. Place renovation beginning this month.

While 95 per cent of the archives will be placed in storage until the building reopens in 2011, a select few exhibits will be displayed at community centres, schools and shopping centres, according to Hall CEO Sue Griffin.

“The public has been coming to us for many years and now it’s our turn to go to them,” she said.

Travelling exhibits will include B.C.’s contribution to the Olympics from 1912 to the present, focusing on the province’s hand in making the 2010 Olympics possible.

This community outreach will be an expansion of the “Hero in You” program that brought athletes’ stories to classrooms in order to help educate young students.

There are nearly 50,000 artifacts and archival documents in the Hall representing 100 years of sporting accomplishment in B.C.
