Family day, Valentine’s merge

Kids, laundry, dishes, dogs and garbage duties.

That’s how many Calgarians spent their Valentine’s Day without the romance of the movies.

Kate McGill and her husband spent the day chasing after their three kids, their two dogs, cleaning and catching up on laundry and dishes.

“Oh, it’s sure not romantic. We just don’t have enough time during the week with the kid’s activities, so it’s just like every other Sunday around here,” McGill said, but added she and her husband would pick another night to celebrate.

“When we can get a babysitter.”

Heather Jahnke Podmoroff said she was spending the first part of the day watching her husband try out for Red Bull Crashed Ice.

“Then I am leaving early for work. Romantic, huh?” she added.

But most people Metro spoke with said the best part of their Valentine’s Day was spending it with their families, including Mark Santos.

“As long as the kids and my wife are here, it really doesn’t matter what we’re doing if we’re together. So it’s just family day to us all weekend,” Santos said.
