Farmers’ market opens Sunday

The Ottawa Farmers’ Market opens for its fifth season at Lansdowne Park Sunday.

Since Sunday is also Mother’s Day, the first 200 moms to visit the market’s information booth will be given a rose.

Once again, the market will be located north of the Aberdeen Pavilion on the east side of the Horticulture Building.

Rather than the large, open-space concept used last year, market manager Linda Cook said stalls will be set up in more of a classic market-style arrangement.

About 60 out of more than 120 member producers will have a stall set up the first weekend. Cook said they expect nearly 100 booths during July and August.

All the goods sold at the market have been produced by vendors within 100 kilometres of Ottawa, except for a fruit seller who comes from the Niagara Region for a couple of weekends in the summer.

“Our policy has always been, no reselling. Everything everyone sells at that market, they make themselves,” said Cook.
