Female teacher charged with sexual assault

A 34-year-old female elementary school teacher was found “engaging in an unlawful sexual act” with a 14-year-old boy in a parked car in rural Clarington on Friday night, Durham police said yesterday.

“They were in a secluded area,” said Det. Const. Jenn Bickle-Hearn, of the force’s sexual assault and child abuse unit.

Police charged the teacher, who works in Whitby but lives in Bowmanville, with sexual assault and sexual interference.

She has been suspended from teaching duties, with pay, during the ongoing criminal investigation, the Durham District School Board said. The teenager is not a student at the teacher’s school, though she coaches him in an athletics program unassociated with the school board.

The police and the school board refused to name the teacher and the school where she taught, saying it would identify the male victim.
