Four charged after attacks on gay men

Vancouver police have arrested and charged four men in connection with two different assaults being investigated as hate crimes.

Brothers Parminder Singh Peter Bassi, 30, and Ravinder Robbie Bassi, 27, were arrested at their Richmond home in connection with the assault on David Holtzman and his partner Peter Regier in Vancouver on June 12.

“Detectives … followed up on multiple tips that came in … after the release of surveillance photographs through the media,” said Const. Jana McGuinness.

In an unrelated case, police have charged two 21-year-old men after the unprovoked beating of a man near Davie and Burrard streets early Thursday morning.

“Disturbing comments were allegedly made regarding the victims’ sexual orientation,” McGuinness said.

Alexandre Tchernychev and Aaron Alexander Hahn, both from Vancouver, were arrested.

The 30-year-old victim is recovering from facial injuries.
