Good Samaritan almost robbed

A father and his 11-year-old son who ran door-to-door alerting neighbours during a North Vancouver apartment fire were almost burglarized in their new temporary home, RCMP said yesterday.

Since the May 7 fire that killed three elderly women, Bryan Matthews and son Dustan Roach-Matthews have lived in a basement suite in the 100 block of East 17th Street.

On Friday, a friend, alone and asleep in the suite, heard a knock. Before he could answer, a man kicked down the door.

Michael Thomas Mueller, 40, was arrested and was charged Monday with break and enter and two counts of possession of stolen property.
