Google maps out city’s bike routes

Biking in Vancouver promises to get easier — especially if you carry a BlackBerry or iPhone — when Google Maps launches its new biking-directions feature this week.

The search engine, which will be posting data on cycling routes in eight Canadian cities, aims to help those who use pedal power get around quickly and safely.

Roads will be colour-coded according to their suitability for biking.

The feature will highlight bike-only trails, dedicated bike lanes along roads, and streets without bike lanes that are still suitable for biking.
