Google Street View comes to Calgary

An invasion of privacy for some, a useful tool for others — your residence image is now at a computer near you with just the click of a mouse.

Google Maps expanded their Street View program to include imagery from 11 Canadian cities yesterday, including Calgary, after spending months trolling neighbourhoods with the Google car collecting the real-life images.

Calgarians were Twittering about the news and blogging about being seen in their yards when the photos were being taken and one thing is certain; Calgarians are talking about Google Street View.

“That’s just great. Now anyone can see my house and it really doesn’t sit well with me. I think it crosses the line and I’m not really happy about it,” 29-year-old Terra Denim said.

“What’s next, Google living room viewer?”

While several other citizens echoed her thoughts, Kevin Dunn thinks the new tool is a great addition.

“It’s just kind of neat. You can look up your old houses and stuff. I don’t think I’m too worried about anyone stalking me or anything,” he said.
