A gunman took hostages at a bank in northeastern Louisiana but there were no reports of gunshots or violence, a local official said on Tuesday.
"A hostage situation is going on," at the bank, said Jane Netterville, spokeswoman for Tensas Parish.
The Tensas State Bank in St. Joseph, a town of 1,135, has three employees and they were assumed to be in the building but it was not clear if customers also were there when the gunman arrived, Netterville said.
State and local police were on the scene, she said.
Monroe, Louisiana, television station KNOE said a negotiator was on the scene talking to an armed bank robber who was holding three people inside the bank.
