Harlequin buys Heartsong Presents Book club

TORONTO – Book publisher Harlequin announced the purchase Friday of Heartsong Presents Book Club, which is dedicated to providing its members with Christian romance novels.

Harlequin did not disclose the price it paid Barbour Publishing Inc. for Heartsong Presents, which it described as “an excellent addition to Harlequin’s direct-to-consumer channel.”

The Heartsong Presents Book Club was founded in 1992 and its members receive four novels a month, with a focus on inspiration, hope and faith.

“We are thrilled to add Heartsong Presents to our portfolio,” said Harlequin publisher and CEO Donna Hayes.

“Our subscribers trust us to provide compelling stories that are delivered to their doorstep monthly. The Heartsong Presents editorial dovetails perfectly with that of Harlequin. . . . “

Harlequin has published its Love Inspired books, which feature inspirational fiction for women with traditional values, since 1997.

Harlequin, a subsidiary of media company Torstar Corp (TS.B), is a leading publisher of books for women, with offices in 19 countries and titles issued worldwide in 31 languages and sold in 111 international markets.
