Helmet likely saved cyclist struck by vehicle, say RCMP

Police say a bicyclist is probably alive today because she was wearing a helmet after being struck by a car yesterday.

Halifax RCMP spokeswoman Const. Tamu Bracken said the victim was bicycling out of a residential driveway on Cow Bay Road around 9 a.m. and struck by an on-coming car.

“Thankfully she was wearing a helmet. It probably saved her,” Bracken said.

The victim was conscious and breathing after the accident and taken by ambulance to the QEII Health Sciences Centre with minor injuries. Bracken said the accident happened after the victim failed to yield when coming out of the driveway.
