Herd travel to Bathurst minus key scorer Frk

The Halifax Mooseheads’ go-to point producer won’t be around to help them shake their worst slump of the season tonight.

The Halifax Mooseheads’ go-to point producer won’t be around to help them shake their worst slump of the season tonight.

The Mooseheads, who play the Bathurst Titan at 7:30 p.m., will be without 17-year-old right-winger Martin Frk as they look to snap a funk that has seen them score just 16 times while losing eight of their past nine games.

Frk, who has a team-high 31 points in 34 games, is trying out for the Czech Republic’s world junior team in Detroit.

“We’ll just put somebody else in the lineup and keep playing four lines,” said Mooseheads head coach Bobby Smith. “We have to realize this is going to happen to different teams over the next month and get through it.”

The Titan, for example, will be without star goaltender Olivier Roy, who is trying out for Canada’s world junior team.

The Mooseheads, 10-23-0-1, played well in back-to-back two-goal losses to the nationally ranked Saint John Sea Dogs and Quebec Remparts on the weekend.

They’ll have their hands full again against the Titan, 22-12-0-0.

“We’ve been getting all four lines playing evenly of late, giving us a lot of energy in our game,” Smith said.

“We have to keep playing really good games, understanding you can play really good games against teams like Saint John and Quebec and still lose.”
