Hindu temple marks multiple celebrations

The phrase “Sabka Malik Ek” in Hindi means “God is one.” Over 100 years ago Saint Shri Shirdi Sai Baba conveyed this message, and to this day, millions of followers lead their lives by this belief.

“It means there is no division of God,” said Prabhat Chaturvedi, chairman of Shri Sadguru Sai Baba Mandir (temple) of Edmonton. “Baba taught us to do good things for ourselves, family and community.”

Chaturvedi, along with hundreds of other members from the temple, celebrated Baba and Guru Purnima yesterday.

“‘Guru’ means ‘teacher’ and ‘purnima’ means ‘full moon,’ ” explained Navneet Kumar, who is a volunteer at the temple.

The celebration included cultural programs presented by children and the release of the second issue of Shirdi Sai Sandesh magazine. The gathering yesterday also marked the one-year anniversary of the temple, which has grown to over 500 members.

The temple, as a multi-cultural resource centre, offers social services as well.

“We’re going to have a blood donation at the Canadian Red Cross on August 14,” said Chaturvedi.
