Holy expo, it’s Batman

It took two years, but Will Reeb finally pieced together the perfect crime-fighting costume.

“I saw the bat symbol in the advertisement and I just had to come,” says Reeb, who was dressed as Adam West’s version of the caped crusader at the Calgary Comic Expo this past weekend. “I don’t get too many chances to wear this, you know.”

His costume, part handmade and part specially ordered, cost about $1,300 to create he says. He even has an Adam West-style batarang, bought from another comic convention.

The 50-year-old Batman lover is one of many comic enthusiasts who flocked to the Roundup Centre dressed as their favourite superhero or villain.

About 10,000 people came out for the two-day event, says Eliece Colbert, a volunteer at the convention.

Reeb, who started watching the caped crusader on TV when he was a young boy, says the Adam West Batman is his favourite because he’s such a fun character and appeals to everyone, young and old.

“I read the comics and watched the TV show as a kid and I just got carried away in all the Batmania back then,” he explains.

He’s gotten a great response from people at the convention, he adds, although he never ran into his diabolical arch-nemesis, the Joker.
