International Women’s Day celebrated

Females across the province celebrated 100 years of triumph yesterday, marking International Women’s Day in the Capital Region.

Hundreds gathered around the globe to recognize the successes and challenges faced by women today.

“There are so many strong women in our small community,” said Michelle Levasseur, organizer for the Devon Women’s Pillar of Peace Award Presentation.

Nominations for the award flooded in to the town, she added. With a population of 7,000, the town was the smallest in the province to recognize the event.

The centennial was recognized by women’s political groups, whose members reflected on the rising demographic of women in leadership roles.
