U.S. President Barack Obama is moving quickly with plans for America’s economy. But Americans are still losing their jobs, their homes and their savings. Is it his fault?
Democrats argue that Obama’s had less then eight weeks to address a disaster that was eight years in the making under former president George Bush.
But Republicans say the new administration is part of the problem. They say Obama’s $787-billion US stimulus bill and $3.7-trillion budget are too big and wasteful.
Investment banker Jack Ablin told CNN that “this is their show right now and no longer can they use the ‘this is what we inherited’ rhetoric.”
Obama does have the American people behind him.
A poll by NBC News and the Wall Street Journal found 66 per cent believe he’d have to be in office for at least a year before he could be blamed for the economy.
So Obama has time. But eventually the mess really will be his. He won’t have anyone to blame if he can’t fix it.
