Israeli-Hamas ceasefire reportedly declared

After eight days of an upsurge in violence between Israel and Hamas, a ceasefire has reportedly been announced by Egyptian Foreign Minister Mohamed Kamel Amr.

The ceasefire is set to take effect at 9 p.m. (2 p.m. EST) Wednesday.

At a joint press conference with Amr, Secretary Clinton expressed hopes that the ceasefire would be beneficial to both the people of Israel and the people of Gaza.

Over the course of the past week, Israel has launched repeated airstrikes into Gaza, and Hamas has fired hundreds of rockets from Gaza into Israel. At least 142 people have died in Gaza, with an additional 1,180 injured, according to the Ministry of the Interior in Gaza.

Authorities in Israel report five deaths on their side, and 94 wounded.
