Keeping ahead of the curves in plus-size fashion

After working in the fashion industry for 22 years, Patricia Stewart noticed that there was something missing — a big thing, actually.

“There is everything from size 0 to 12, but then what happens after that?” she says. “Everything for plus-sized women is either unflattering or boring.”

Stewart’s new Philly-based clothing line, Chinoo Designs, is catered to fashion-forward, voluptuous women. She frequently uses triangles and other geometric patterns to flatter the silhouettes of her clients and doesn’t shy away from up-to-the-minute trends, which are hard to come by in other lines dedicated to curvy women.

Aside from industry experience, Stewart also had some insider knowledge. “I’m plus-sized and I know what I like,” says the designer. “So I figured other women would appreciate that also.”
