Last-minute shopping tips

You’ve got your list. You’ve checked it twice. It’s time for the annual trip to the mall to get goodies for friends and family.

You’ve got your list. You’ve checked it twice. It’s time for the annual trip to the mall to get goodies for friends and family.

Here are some tips for finding those perfect items at Yorkdale Shopping Centre — one of the GTA’s busiest malls — from general manager Anthony Casalanguida:

Take advantage of extended mall hours.

Make a list. And never forget about yourself. Pick something for you.

Plan your route. The mall’s website (www.yorkdale.com) has an interactive directory that can help you make a map of the best route to do your shopping and even the closest parking lot.

Utilize valet parking. For $6 you can pretend that you’re one of the rich and famous and leave your car for someone else to park .

Dress for a long day. Wear a light jacket and comfortable shoes, and carry a light purse or pouch.

You can get your gifts wrapped at the mall’s wrapping station so they look like a million bucks, and the money raised goes to a good cause — Project Humanity.

If you have to bring your kids, bring a stroller. If you forget, there are some available at the mall.

If you’ve been shopping for hours and feel dizzy or worn out, stop and get something to eat. Make sure you have water with you at all times.

Rather than doing everything at once look at making multiple trips to the mall.

And if the idea of going to the mall and doing battle with the crowds makes you want to throw up, never fear — you can always use a personal shopper. You can book one online for two hours for a deposit of $25. You get the money back in a gift certificate to use at the mall, and the personal shopping service ends up being free.
