Lenny Kravitz returns to his roots

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of his debut album, Let Love Rule, Lenny Kravitz is bringing his retro rock back to intimate venues.

“We’re just reintroducing ourselves to our supporters and getting right up in everyone’s face. That’s kinda how it was 20 years ago,” says the 45-year-old singer, songwriter and sex symbol.
(If you need to refresh your memory of Kravitz’s body of work, treat yourself to the video for Again.)

Haven’t seen you in a while. What’s the hair like these days?

I’m growing it back. I’m just going to grow it and see what happens.

You’ve been living in Paris for two years. Why?

It’s the first place I fell in love with when I left America 20 years ago. They sent me to Europe when my first album came out, and that’s really where I broke. … I’m really into architecture and Paris is so incredibly beautiful. I’m really inspired there.

Ah, hanging in the swanky 16th arrondissement. The thing about you, Lenny, is you’re always so cool.

(Laughs)?Ask my daughter. I’m sure she’ll have a different opinion. You gotta be a dorky dad sometimes.

Speaking of Zoe (Kravitz’s daughter with ex-wife Lisa Bonet), she sings too. Any plans for a duet?

She has a great band. She’s been opening for the Roots and playing festivals. It would be so much fun to write a song with her, and I’m sure we will, but she’s so busy doing her thing. I’m just watching and loving what she’s doing.

Now that it’s 20 years later, do you have to do extra stretches or something before shows?

You talking like you talking to Mick Jagger… I’m still young! (laughs) … Thank God I have the genes of my grandfather. He was a kid until he was 93.
