A man was found dead this morning within the elevator shaft of a Hell’s Kitchen high rise.

The victim, a construction worker at 555 Tenth Avenue, was discovered when emergency services responded to a call just after 7 a.m. for what was thought to be a case of cardiac arrest. The 53-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene and is believed to have fallen. However, the exact cause of death remains unconfirmed.

The body was located between the elevator and the shaft, and it is believed that it was there overnight.

The building, named 555Ten, sits next to the Lincoln Tunnel and around the corner from the Javits Center. It still under construction and remains unoccupied, but contains mostly luxury apartments, boasting an overall height spanning 650 feet. ABC7 reported that when builders arrived this morning for work, they were prohibited from entering the building. The NYPD is continuing to investigate the death as details are still emerging.
