A food cart plowed into a woman on the Upper West Side Monday morning, knocking her to the pavement and crushing her legs.
The injured victim, 50-year-old Michelle Hemingway, screamed as the Halal Omar food cart barreled into her near Columbus Circle on West 60th Street, the New York Post reported.
The vendor was backing up the food cart when the driver lost control, and the cart mowed down Hemingway, who was in its path. It is unknown whether the cart had been detached from the vehicle with which the vendor was moving it at the time of the accident.
Hemingway was carried on a stretcher by ambulance to Mount Sinai St. Luke’s Hospital after suffering serious injuries. However, later that day, the cart was spotted up and running, this time for business rather than after pedestrians, as a new worker continued to turn a profit.
Gothamist later confirmed that the driver who hit the woman was given a summons by police.
