Fear has to be one of the most horrendous, debilitating feelings a woman can have.
Whether it’s fear for your own safety, or the fear of standing upon a stage in front of hundreds of people, it’s always something difficult to overcome. But when you do stare fear in the face, well, there’s probably nothing more life-affirming and powerful.
This weekend, more than 50 women — including me — will battle both violence against women, and stage fright, as they take the stage in a V-Day production of Eve Ensler’s award-winning play The Vagina Monologues. The production is part of a global V-Day movement to raise money for organizations that work to end violence against women throughout the world. Proceeds from this production will go to the Ottawa Sexual Assault and Support Centre.
Like the hundreds of women Ensler interviewed for the monologues, the women in this production are a tough, intelligent, funny, creative, beautiful bunch of gals who know how to fight fear. You do it with guts and gusto.
