Lynn Manwar before, left, and after her Style By Jury makeover.

What’s your first impression of Lynn Manwar?

She came face to face with our jury wearing a shapeless pleated burgundy top, baggy floral pants, and white soft-soled shoes. The skin on her arms was dry and scaly. Her teeth were stained, and when she smiled, she showed more gum than tooth. Her hair was flat and lifeless, and she completed the picture with a pair or large round boring glasses.

The jury said: “She’s a nerd … she looks like someone who just woke up off the couch to answer the door for the mailman … those glasses make her look old … those shoes look ridiculous.” At least there’s a reason for the shoes. Four years ago Lynn was diagnosed with arthritis and needs footwear that can be fitted with orthopedic inserts. The jury was sympathetic, but still unimpressed. “She seems to be defining herself through her arthritis and using it as an excuse for the way she looks.”

At 34, Lynn is still single, runs a recruiting business from her home and defines herself by what she can’t do. So in order to help Lynn get over her psychological barriers we took her to meet life coach Ellie Rubin who helped her to define what she wanted from her life.

Our dermatologist Dr. Kucy Pon gave her an ointment and some helpful advice for getting rid of her psoriasis.

The prescription for getting rid of her eyeglasses was an appointment for laser eye surgery at the Herzig Eye Institute. Her gummy smile was eliminated with a visit to our dynamic dental duo of Dr. Andrew Charkiw and Dr. Arma Afsar. They performed laser contouring to evaporate the gum tissue and expose the tooth underneath. They also got her teeth back to their original luster with a Zoom whitening treatment.

Lynn’s wardrobe presented a much more difficult challenge, and the only person who could help was our super stylist, David Clemmer. His first reaction when he saw her closet was, “holy hand me downs.” She needs to break out of her shell, so David took her shopping at Ross Mayer, which stocks clothes with a funky edge and subtle sex appeal. And he got her some stylish footwear from Town Shoes that was comfortable with her orthotics.

From there, our hair stylist Johnny Cupello took over and gave her a cut and colour that Lynn said made her “feel like a rock star.” Makeup artist Korby Banner used his talents to lift up her sad looking eyes, define her jaw line and make her look sexy.

When she appeared before our jury a second time her first impression was very different. This time they thought she looked, “pretty … professional … with fresh energy … a woman who seems willing to try anything .”
