Mad rush for animation festival

With the Ottawa International Animation festival opening today, organizers worked overtime to get ready for an expected 27,000 cartoon enthusiasts.

“The staff has been up late trying to get everything ready in time,” said festival managing director Kelly Neall. “It’s always a mad rush at the end to prepare everything, but we’re almost there. Everybody’s pretty excited.”

The festival’s official competition screenings offer 90 new animated works chosen from 2,091 entries, and include features The Illusionist by Silvain Chomet (France), Goodbye, Mr. Christie by Phil Mulloy (UK) and One Piece Film — Strong World by Munehisa Sakai (Japan).

Kids and families will find plenty to do and see this year, including the short films for kids and TV for kids competitions, animation workshops for teens and families, and an interactive sneak peek at Teletoon’s new show, Skatoony.

The Ottawa International Animation Festival runs through Oct. 24. For more details and the schedule, check out animationfestival.ca.
