Man dies in Scarborough crash

One man is dead and another is injured after a high-speed crash that ripped a car in two early yesterday.

One man is dead and another is injured after a high-speed crash that ripped a car in two early yesterday.

The single-vehicle collision occurred at about 4:20 a.m. at 422 Brimorton Dr., a residential street near Markham and Ellesmere roads in Scarborough.

The two Toronto men were travelling in a Pontiac Sunfire when it drove off the road, slamming into a tree, a pole and a second tree before coming to a stop, said Sgt. Tim Burrows of Traffic Services.

When the car collided with the pole it broke apart into two pieces and the men were thrown out the back of the car, he said.

The 28-year-old driver was pronounced dead at the scene and his 27-year-old passenger was taken to Sunnybrook hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

“Speed was definitely a factor,” Burrows said.

“Take the speed out of the equation and this crash doesn’t happen,” he added.
