Man with HIV charged with aggravated assault

A North Vancouver man is facing charges for allegedly having unprotected sex with a woman without telling her that he is HIV-positive, say RCMP.

Adam Thomas Rollo, 28, faces a charge of aggravated assault for allegedly not informing his partner of his condition. The RCMP’s press release included a photo of Rollo.

“It’s extremely rare in North Vancouver (for RCMP to issue a public warning and photo of a suspect), almost unprecedented,” said Const. Michael McLaughlin.

He added that the purpose of the press release was not to shame Rollo, but to act in the best interests of public health.

“We have a strong belief that more victims are out there,” said McLaughlin, who urged both possible victims and witnesses to contact North Vancouver RCMP.

Rollo has known he is HIV-positive since 2003. He was arrested on May 19 and released on conditions that include telling prospective sex partners that he has HIV.
