Metro Minute with Handel’s Messiah

The Hallelujah Chorus is as much a part of Christmas as candy canes and gingerbread, and today and tomorrow, the National Arts Centre Orchestra celebrates the season with two performances of Handel’s Messiah. Making his NAC debut, conductor Graeme Jenkins leads soprano Ann Monoyios, Canadian mezzo-soprano Elizabeth Turnbull, tenor James Charles Taylor and baritone Michael Todd Simpson in Messiah, the quintessential music ritual of the holiday season. Don’t forget to stand for the Hallelujah chorus — a tradition that was born when the king at the time that Handel composed the score rose to his feet for the music.
