Redevelopment of the land housing the historic Arlington building was stalled, and a federal court ruled that too much time has passed for an Aboriginal group to stake a land claim. The Thomas Svekla murder trial continued with testimony from a former crack dealer.

Opposition MPs are targeting a Conservative MP after a video of him making disparaging remarks about homosexuals was released, and transatlantic flights inbound to Canada were allegedly targeted by eight British men on trial for a terrorist conspiracy plot. A plane landed on a highway in Virginia.

Canada confirmed that the mission in Afghanistan will be extended until 2011 after its demands to NATO were met, and there were signs that President Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe may "turn to intimidation and violence" to hold on to power.
