Missing Macleod rafters turn up OK

Three missing rafters in their 20s have turned up safely in Alberta.

Three missing rafters in their 20s have turned up safely in Alberta.

Two women and a man launched their inflatable craft on the Macleod River yesterday, about 230 kilometres west of Edmonton.

Their plan was to get off in Edson about three hours later, but officials say the trip actually takes about nine hours.

The three spent the night outdoors and found a residence early this morning. They later managed to telephone that they were safe.

Mounties had launched an air and ground search for the trio yesterday after a caretaker at Willmore Park in Edson, said some people came to the park’s gates last night looking for help.

When darkness fell as the group was rafting down the river, some of the rafters got off, but the group of three had continued onward. The group that got off hitched a ride to Edson, then went to the park to meet their friends, but they didn’t arrive.
